The Happiest Place on Earth is not be as happy as it might like.
The Walt Disney Co. announced today that it will not open its gates on July 17th, as previously planned, "pending government approvals". No new date has been provided.
According to the statement, "California has now indicated that it will not issue theme park reopening guidelines until sometime after July 4. Given the time required for us to bring thousands of cast members back to work and restart our business, we have no choice but to delay the reopening of our theme parks and resort hotels until we receive approval from government officials. Once we have a clearer understanding of then guidelines will be released, we expect to be able to communicate a reopening date."
California has been one of the hardest-hid states by the COVID-19 virus, seeing massive upticks in confirmed cases just this week. In addition to the latest case numbers rising, there have been multiple reports of Disney park employees expressing their concerns over returning to work too early.
