The Splash Mountain rides at Disneyland and Magic Kingdom have been hotly discussed on social media over the past few weeks as Hollywood continues to be called out for social injustices. Splash Mountain is based on the deeply problematic and racist Song of the South film by Disney and both the ride and film have been publicly condemned for years.

The Walt Disney Company announced on June 25 that it will completely reimagine Splash Mountain stating, “Today we are thrilled to share a first glimpse of a project Imagineers have been working on since last year. Splash Mountain – at both Disneyland park in California and Magic Kingdom park in Florida – will soon be completely reimagined...The theme is inspired by an all-time favorite animated Disney film, ‘The Princess and the Frog.'”

In the wake of George Floyd’s murder and protests against police brutality, media companies have been rapidly attempting to correct past and present social injustices. Social media users and critics have said that the reimagining of Splash Mountain has been long overdue. Now that Disney has officially announced they will be revamping the 1989 ride, social media users are expressing their happiness by pointing out everything awesome about Disney’s first movie to feature a Black princess.

What scenes from The Princess and the Frog do you hope to see on the new Princess and the Frog ride?
