Jessica Campbell, known best by fans for her roles in Election and Freaks and Geeks, has died at the age of 38. Campbell’s parents recently reported that Campbell passed away from unknown causes on December 29.
Campbell began her acting career with the film In the Best Interest of the Children in 1992. Later, she starred alongside Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon in Election. Campbell also appeared in the beloved cult classic series Freaks and Geeks as Amy Andrews.
Even though Campbell continued to act for a few years after Freaks and Geeks, she later retired from acting to become a naturopathic physician. Her cousin has set up a GoFundMe page to benefit Campbell’s 10-year-old son.
Her cousin wrote on the page, “A true adventurer in every sense of the word, Jessica packed a staggering amount of experiences into her tragically short lifetime...She could always be counted on as the instigator of, or at the very least a willing accomplice to, various forms of mischief and hijinks. To know her is to have an over-the-top story involving her. To know her is to have known true friendship.”
Reese Witherspoon also gave her condolences on Twitter,
“So heartbroken to hear this. Working with Jessica on Election was such a pleasure. I’m sending all my love to Jessica‘s family and loved ones.”
Our hearts go out to Campbell’s family and friends during this difficult time.
