After a slew of offensive social media posts, and surge of fan outrage on Twitter, Gina Carano has been dropped from the cast of the hit Disney+ Star Wars series, The Mandalorian.
The former MMA actor has liked, retweeted, and shared an array of unaccecptable posts, from mocking transgender pronouns, mocking mask wearers during the pandemic, and most recently, comparing those with Republican political views to being treated similarly to how Jewish people were treated during the Holocaust.
The hashtag #FireGinaCurano trended on Twitter for hours on Wednesday, Feb 10, with many fans expressing their disgust and tagging Disney, Disney+, The Mandalorian director Jon Favreau, and even Mando star Pedro Pascal to heighten awareness of their disapproval.
In an official statement, a Lucasfilm spokesperson said:
“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
