It's a good time to be a Star Wars fan, as Disney has brought forth a ton of new content since acquiring Lucasfilm. The Mandalorian is one of the crown jewels of the entire property, but there was a shake-up in the galaxy far, far away with the firing of Cara Dune actress Gina Carano. But despite this professional setback, Carano's social media accounts have only gotten more popular.

Gina Carano made her Star Wars debut in Season 1 of The Mandalorian, quickly becoming a fan-favorite character in the acclaimed series. But Carano soon landed in hot water due to controversial statements expressed on social media. The latest of these resulted in her firing, but there's a silver lining for the actress/martial artist. Namely, because her social media has been picking up.

According to Newsweek, Gina Carano's Instagram account has gained nearly 150K new followers since being let go by Lucasfilm. What's more, her Twitter account got around the same amount of new followers. She's also already started making moves on future projects, leaving Cara Dune's fate in Star Wars a mystery.

Gina Carano's posts on social media have been the subject of controversy for some time. But her most recent seemingly comparing the current political climate to Nazi Germany, ultimately resulted in her firing. This is after her Star Wars character recently returned for Season 2 of The Mandalorian, while also being set up for a spinoff.

Lucasfilm is putting a ton of focus on its small screen Star Wars content, especially after The Mandalorian became such a sensation. One of the previously announced projects is Rangers of the New Republic, which would have presumably starred Gina Carano as her signature character Cara Dune. It's currently unclear if that show is still in development, and if Lucasfilm is planning on recasting the role following Carano's departure.

Shortly after her firing was made public, Gina Carano announced that she was already working on a new project. Namely, the Deadpool actress has plans to make a movie for conservative news outlet The Daily Wire. It's a departure from the massive franchises she's been on thus far, so we'll have to see exactly how that developing project comes together.

It'll be interesting to see exactly how Lucasfilm deals with Gina Carano's absence moving forward. Will Cara Dune be killed off in the line of her duty as a New Republic Marshal? Or perhaps they'll simply recast the role. After all, Warner Bros. pulled a similar move following the firing of Johnny Depp from Fantastic Beasts 3.

Season 2 of The Mandalorian is currently available in its entirety on Disney+.
