‘Halloween’ sequel in the works
John Carpenter’s 1978 slasher film ‘Halloween’ became an unexpected hit and created one of the most iconic characters in horror; Michael Myers.
The franchise has now spawned 10 sequels with the most recent being last year’s ‘Halloween’ (yep - it has the same name as the original).
The 2018 film took a significantly different approach from the previous sequels as it served as a direct follow-up to the original and seemingly erased any existence of the other films in the series that have released in the last 40 years.
With Jamie Lee Curtis returning as the character that made her a household name and a strong script accompanying, the film was a massive success bringing in an astonishing $254 million on its $15 million budget - its opening weekend alone brought in $76 million.
‘Halloween (2018)’ is the highest grossing film of the franchise, the highest opening weekend for a female-lead horror film, biggest weekend for a slasher film… the list goes on.
With the massive success of the film, it’s no surprise a sequel is in the works.
Currently, little information is known but a recent reports lists Scott Teems (‘Firestarter’, ‘The Breathing Method’) as the writer.
Curtis is expected to return along with Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak with John Carpenter coming back to score the film.
While production is likely months away and a release date has not been hinted at - it’s safe to assume an October 2020 release.
