On June 19, 2016 - Yelchin was pinned between his car and a brick pillar after exiting his vehicle and unknowingly placing himself in the path of his car that then rolled down a steep driveway.
He died as a result of the accident. The make a model of Jeep he owned was known to have an apparent issue which made it easy to confuse a car being in park or neutral.
His parents settled out of court with Jeep in a wrongful death lawsuit.
Following his death was the creation of the Anton Yelchin Foundation; which aims to help support young people in creative arts who face obstacles due to debilitating disease or disabilities - after his death, it was publicly revealed he was born with cystic fibrosis.
Earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, a documentary called ‘Love, Antosha’ premiered. The film, narrated by Nicolas Cage and featuring names including Jodie Foster & Jennifer Lawrence, looks back on the life and career of the late actor.
