Lucasfilm has announced Fleabag actor Phoebe Waller-Bridge will star alongside Harrison Ford in the fifth installment of the Indiana Jones film franchise.
James Mangold is also set to direct the new film and it will be the first time Stephen Spielberg will not direct an Indiana Jones movie. Mangold recently said, “I’m thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers...Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can’t help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself.”
It has also been announced that legendary composer John Williams is set to return to score Indiana Jones 5. Williams composed the iconic soundtrack for Raiders of the Lost Ark nearly 40 years ago, in addition to numerous other well-known scores for film franchises, such as Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and Harry Potter.
While Steven Spielberg will remain credited a producer on the film, he reportedly wanted to pass the story on “to a new generation” of filmmakers and viewers.
Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled to premiere on July 29, 2022.
