The devilishly fantastic actor Mads Mikkelsen has just joined the cast of Indiana Jones 5, alongside Indy himself, Harrison Ford, and Fleabag star, Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Over his career Mikkelsen has expertly played villainous roles, including in Doctor Strange and Casino Royale as well as iconic serial killer Hannibal in the hit series of the same name. Mikkelsen was also recently cast as Johnny Depp’s replacement to play the villain Grindelwald in the remaining films in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.
The plot of the Indiana Jones sequel and details on Mikkelsen’s role are both currently under wraps. However, given Mikkelsen’s most recent roles, it’s likely he will play the antagonist to Indy. We know that Ford will reprise his role as the titular hero, but there has not been any news on who comedic Waller-Bridge will play.
Steven Spielberg will not be returning to direct the upcoming installment and will instead remain as a hands-on producer. Indiana Jones 5 will be directed by James Mangold (The Wolverine, Logan, Walk The Line) with legendary composer John Williams returning to score the film.
Cast and crew are expected to begin production on Indiana Jones 5 this summer and the film is set to premiere July 29, 2022.
Are you looking forward to seeing Mikkelsen in Indiana Jones 5? Do you think he will play the villain?
