Despite what you may have heard, Clint Eastwood does not endorse CBD products.
The famous actor/director recently filed two federal lawsuits claiming that his name has been illegally used to endorse CBD products. One of the suits targets the manufacturers of products called “Euphoric CBD,” “Sera Relief,” and “Patriot Supreme,” for trademark infringement, defamation, false advertising and the violation of his right of publicity. The suit cites an erroneous news article that has since been taken down, which stated that Eastwood is “stepping away from the spotlight” to focus on his CBD products.
The lawsuit remarks that “Mr. Eastwood does not have, and never has had, any association with the manufacture, promotion, and/or sale of any CBD products.”
The second lawsuit targets different businesses that have used Eastwood’s name in the metadata for various CBD websites.
It claims, “By using Mr. Eastwood’s name in hidden metatags, Defendants have figuratively posted a sign with Mr. Eastwood’s trademark in front of their online store to attract consumers and caused the consuming public to believe that Mr. Eastwood is associated with and/or endorsed the CBD Online marketplace Defendants’ CBD products, when no such association actually exists.”
Eastwood’s representative noted that the actor/director is not taking a position about the CBD industry, it's just that he rarely endorses anything.
His representative said, “Mr. Eastwood does not express a point of view about CBD products or the legitimate CBD industry...The issues in these lawsuits center on the illegal use of Mr. Eastwood’s name and likeness, and dissemination of false and defamatory statements about him, to sell someone else’s products.”
Even though Mr. Eastwood doesn’t endorse CBD, which products do you wish he would endorse? We don’t know about you, but we think a Clint Eastwood-approved camera would be awesome!
