Warner Bros. announced that George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road is getting a prequel spinoff that will follow the character Furiosa, before she joined Mad Max in Fury Road. Anya Taylor-Joy was just cast as the lead, Furiosa, which was played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road. Taylor-Joy will star alongside Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the new film.
George Miller is returning to co-write, co-produce, and direct Furiosa alongside his previous Fury Road team with the Kennedy Miller Mitchell production house.
While Hemsworth and Abdul-Mateen II’s characters are currently unknown, it has been revealed that the film will be set in the dystopian wasteland Miller created in the original trilogy with Mel Gibson. Mad Max: Fury Road managed to win six Oscars when it premiered in 2015, and garnered $375.2 at the box office worldwide. Only time will tell if Furiosa will be as successful.
