Movie of the Day 6.25

Team Stardust
June 25, 2020

Inspired by William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, today’s film, while flawed, looked at racism and stereotypes while encouraging empathy and love. Punchy dance numbers, memorable songs, and the timeless story made this Movie of the Day an instant sensation when it premiered in 1961.

Are you ready to menacingly snap your fingers to the beat of a catchy show tune?

West Side Story

Thanks @Ajhebb15 for the musical recommendation! West Side Story is widely considered to be one of the best adaptations of Romeo and Juliet to date. We hope that Steven Spielberg’s upcoming remake of West Side Story starring Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler will fix many of the controversial issues, like whitewashing and racial stereotypes, found in the 1961 film. Even though West Side Story (1961) has many flaws, it’s still an entertaining film that we can all learn from. We can’t wait to sing along to West Side Story with you tonight!
