Ever since theaters across the globe closed this spring due to the coronavirus, viewers have been turning to streaming services to watch the latest films. Now that theaters are beginning to reopen, films are finally making their way onto the big screen, like Tenet, while others continue to delay their release dates (we’re looking at you, Wonder Woman 1984!).
If a cinema still isn’t open near you, don’t worry. There are still new films to watch. Check them out:
Lucy has trouble letting go of the little mementos she keeps of her past relationships. Instead of tossing them in the trash, she decides to make art out of the remains of her broken relationships.
17-year-old Veronica discovers that she is pregnant and decides to drive 2,000 miles to have an abortion without permission from her conservative parents. Amy Nicholson from Variety says, “Unpregnant isn’t interested in the will-she-or-won’t-she drama of second-guessing Veronica’s resolve. By scuttling the moral debate, Goldenberg gives her leads time to charm each other — and the audience.”
A sequel to the horror comedy, The Babysitter, this film has mixed reviews with some critics loving the humor while others think it simply falls flat.
The Social Dilemma is a documentary that examines the effects of under-regulated social media and questions if it is destroying civilization as we know it. Critic Dennis Harvey says that the documentary is “densely packed yet lively and entertaining.”
