Throughout the years, the role of Batman has gone to a variety of actors; each bringing their own touch to the iconic superhero.

From Adam West’s comedic twist in the ‘60s TV series to Christian Bale’s critically acclaimed performance in The Dark Night Trilogy - an actor can make or break a character beloved my so many.

In recent years, Ben Affleck’s take on the Caped Crusader was more often panned than praised in seemingly forgettable films that failed to achieve both the critical & financial success of their predecessors.

After a few disappointments including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice & Justice League, Affleck announced he would be stepping down from the role.

Robert Pattinson & Nicholas Hoult were both up for the role.

Rumors began circulating in the last few weeks that actors Robert Pattinson & Nicholas Hoult were both in the running to take on the lead role in the upcoming trilogy helmed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, War of the Planet of the Apes).

Today it has been confirmed that Warner Bros approved of Pattinson’s casting [though negations are still in the works] and production on the first of three films - which follows Batman during his formative stages - is expected to begin later this year or early 2020.

While Pattinson is often - and for whatever reason negatively - associated with his role in The Twilight Saga, some of his latest films prove that he is one of the best actors in Hollywood who can truly bring a unique touch to a character as iconic as Batman.

We recommend you check his incredible performances in Good Time & High Life. Not to mention, he received much acclaim for his performance in the upcoming film The Lighthouse - which premiered at Cannes a few weeks back.

The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters June 25, 2021.
