Television star Felix Silla, best known for his role as Cousin Itt on The Addams Family has died at the age of 84, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Though Silla's face never appeared on the series, completely concealed by the full-length hair costume, round sunglasses, and bowler hat worn as Cousin Itt, the image of his kooky character is rather well known.
Cousin Itt only appeared in 17 episodes of the 2 season series from 1964-1966, but thanks to reruns and heavy syndication over the past several decades, Cousin Itt's managed to secure a stronghold among pop culture.
While not typically associated with Hollywood stardom, Silla's stature favored him to be cast in many iconic roles. A petit man, measuring four feet tall and weighing a mere 70 pounds, Silla was the perfect size not only for the role of Cousin Itt, but also appeared in Planet of the Apes, an Ewok in Return of the Jedi, and a robot sidekick on the Buck Rogers show. Other credits include Star Trek: The Original Series and Spaceballs.
Silla also enjoyed a bustling career behind the camera, working as a stand-in for double for child actors on many films, including Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, and Batman Returns.
Enjoying an acting career spanning over 50 years, Silla shared his talents on many movies and shows that are well-loved by movie and TV fans around the world. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.
