The much anticipated live-action remake of The Little Mermaid has just added another star to the cast. Noma Dumezweni, who has gained attention from audiences from her appearances in the new HBO show The Undoing, is set to join the ever-growing cast of The Little Mermaid.
While Dumezweni’s role is currently under wraps, sources at Deadline say that the character was made specifically for her. Check out the rest of the confirmed cast so far:
Ariel → Halle Bailey
Ursula → Melissa McCarthy
King Triton → Javier Bardem
Prince Eric → Jonah Hauer-King
Sebastian → Daveed Diggs
Flounder → Jacob Tremblay
Scuttle → Awkwafina
Lin-Manuel Miranda, John DeLuca, and Marc Platt are set to produce the musical with Rob Marshall (Chicago, Mary Poppins Returns) directing. Miranda and original The Little Mermaid co-songwriter Alan Menken are currently writing new songs for the undersea film. However, fans of the original Disney princess movie will be happy to learn that the live-action remake will also include songs from the animated film by Menken and the late Howard Ashman.
