Movie fans are getting their Christmas wish: Wonder Woman 1984 will debut on December 25, 2020 both in theaters and and HBO Max.
The highly-anticipated sequel starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine has had several release dates. Initially the film was expected in theaters over the summer, but as the pandemic worsened, the release date was pushed to October, then again to December 25th for its theatrical debut.
With several films releasing early to VOD this year, there was speculation around whether or not WarnerMedia would consider releasing the film on its streaming platform, HBO Max.
Several other Warner Bros. films have also been rescheduled recently. Dune has been moved from its December 2020 release date to October 1, 2021. The Batman moved from October 1, 2021, will now open in theaters on March 4, 2022.
Other schedule changes include the upcoming sequel to The Matrix, which will now open in December 2021, while The Flash moved from June 2022 to November 2022. Shazam! Fury of the Gods will forgo its November 2022 date in favor of June 2023. And the upcoming Shazam spinoff Black Adam starring Dwayne Johnson was removed from the slate altogether.
